Can I suggest it might be a good idea to add a few words explaining the reason for any modifications otherwise posters may feel someone else is putting words into their mouth so to speak? I also noticed you resurrected the Phil Martin thread with a new post earlier, then when Phil Stewardson added a post you deleted yours so now it looks like Phil brought it back to life after 6 weeks! You're doing a grand job Vanessa but it reminds me of my wife buying new clothes then playing the "No honestly... I've have this coat for ages" trick, thinking I wont notice..lol Follow |

I wondered about Phils response to the PM thread and was confused. Makes sense now. I've just realised why you have modified it. God V, if a little light humour about Dyson on a dessert island is going to be censored think I'll give here a miss. It's a serious forum yes, but a little light heartedness is usually part of the thread. If for whatever reason you'd find something so trivial offensive (World gone PC mad springs to mind) then take that bit out. You deleted all before it which was my main point. |

RE: Dropping the offer amount last minute to get a deal
WIth respect all, please don't be so quick to jump to conclusions.
All I did was delete the huge repeat responses/previous replies as it makes it very difficult to find the two or three lines at the bottom that are new content. I left the fresh content untouched to make it easier to read. With regards to the Phil Martin thread, I was informed by Phil Martin that the information I had posted was incorrect (someone had been impersonating him on another forum), so I chose to delete it. I wrote to Phil Stewardson explaining what had happened. I am not the moderator ... but I do "house keep" tidying up the forum ... a bit like the pub manager making sure everything looks tidy and neat and there are no glasses left on tables. I am entitled to edit or delete my own posts though. Nick is the moderator and he will moderate me if necessary! ![]() Hope that sets the record straight? I think the big "New Reply" button is better than the smaller one to stop long duplication of previous answers, so if you have not used that one, then do give it a try. Apologies to anyone who misunderstood but thank you all for noticing and caring. Follow |

Problem then is that you lose the thing you were commenting on. Good practice is to use the "reply" button but edit the automatic quote. Leslie Costar will be along shortly to explain how all this happens by magic on Cix, just as it has for the last 20+ years ;-)

If your response covers more than one point raised, just do same as above for each point then it's more likely to make sense to another reader. A nice flowing thread might have lots of different views based on how the thread has progressed/changed so far. Lots of "conversations" on this forum tend to result in a "round-robin" all referring to the same OP and re-pasting the same thing over and over again hence it becomes too much like hard work to follow or pick up on long threads. ... sorry what was this thread about

RE: Dropping the offer amount last minute to get a deal
Could it be sorted by moving the big "new reply" button next to "report" and changing the other reply button to say "quote".
That's what vbulletin forums do and works well. |
