RE: FREE Caity Wall and Loft insulation 4 all.
So, if you have solid walls but want the loft insulation upgraded you need to pay for it?
Also, is this nationwide or limited to certain areas? |

RE: FREE Caity Wall and Loft insulation 4 all.
Poor quality cavity wall insulation can be a future liability if it gets wet. The expensive stuff will dry out, the cheap stuff fets wet, gets heavy and the weight forces it down the cavity to ground level - breaching the dpc.
Insulating properties to maintain fuel efficiency is all well and good - but rather pointless if we then have to tell tenants to open the windows to prevent moisture build-up / mildew. |

We are a part of a national group of companies who depend on reputation and licencing. The new Green Deal is on our agenda, but that is a full house survey of all the building, heating, number of people, current billing, down to the N'th degree, this is to be oaid for by the owner, and balanced with current spend. .W use the best produce, trained staff and surveyors and do not cut corners. The windows open attitude is still not valid, as most buildings should be vented and heat is kept in, cold out and given the choice to open a window once a day is still better than being cold all the time. This was a regular excuse whenlandlords had to pay for it..... 80) (10-09-2012 12:23 PM)michael_freer Wrote: So, if you have solid walls but want the loft insulation upgraded you need to pay for it? No its all free...... as long as the property is suitable and the existing loft insul isn't already 260mm + or - 60mm |

RE: FREE Cavity Wall and Loft insulation for all.
Hi Tribe
I would appreciate some clarity on a couple of points. Last Friday I attended the London & South East Landlords' Day in London which covered some good topics. One of the talks I attended was Green Deal or No Deal by Dave Princep (RLA) who said that this free scheme ends 31/12/12 so we should apply asap. I have a small portfolio but have no idea about the existing loft insulation (assuming it exists) or the wall cavity. My question is: should I just submit applications for all my properties and then the organisation will carry out the assessment or am I supposed to know beforehand whether the properties meet the requirements? ![]() Summer |

Summer,
They will send a surveyor out first to check to see if your properties qualify. RE: FREE Cavity Wall and Loft insulation for all.
Summer,
If you have old properties be very careful about cavity wall insulation as it can cause more problems (damp) than it solves. Some assessors are not really that well trained and are salesmen in disguise. Loft insulation is a no brainer but make sure that your properties are actually suitable for cavity wall insulation before agreeing to have it done. |
