There's even a formula for 'wealthy' which I will start a post about next week when I get back. Well done Phil. If you have time, look out for Happiness by Richard Layard. This and the millionaire next door are two of my all time favourites. Layard points out that the happiest nation on earth is Nigeria, where salaries are circa $10K per year, and the most miserable nation is Romania (probably written when they were under the Chauchescu regime last century). Layard is a great leveller of wealth, as was Mr Micawber in Dickens. Income > expenditure, result happiness. Income < expenditure, result misery. |

But there are quite a few ex-government officials in Nigeria sitting on several million dollars just waiting for some assistance to get it out of the country, judging by the faxes and emails I have received over the years....

Hi Gerry
Hope you are well! was in your neck of the woods at the weekend celebrating anniversary with the wife in Loch Fyne. (Yes we love seafood so much we drove 45 mins). You do realise you replied to my post of Jan 2011? :-D Hi Vanessa I am still about - sorry i didn't get your email. Maybe my filter blocked it?! anyway been mad busy and haven't had the time to contribute to forums... :-( ironic today i came on and you posted asking about me. Need someone to take over my eviction which was with Landlord Action, can't seem to get hold of them. Will start another thread though as this one is well off topic! |

RE: Phil Martin - The Reality
I never knew Phil Martin, I posted for the first time on PTaround the time he posted a statement about how it had all gone 'Pete Tong' but everyone would be paid back, surely most people must be paid back by now???If not I am sure they are about to be......he did promise after all !
Even though there were huge sums of money involved, this has happened again and again and as soon as one goes he's replaced by others., I can think of a couple of other very high profile people in this field who will go the same way and probably owe even more money because the claims are getting more and more outrageous and to many people the strapline of 'earn enough to give in the day job' really draws them in. All of these guys could earn a really good living doing things right, but they cant do it the right way. I never understood this until about 12mths ago when we took a new tenant in a commercial unit. I will call him Dick, Its not his name, its just appropriate. Dick has an illness that means he cant tell the truth, furthermore, because he says something,[/size] he actually believes it. If he won the lottery tonight it would be gone by Monday, every decision he makes is wrong........anyway I could go on all night, but my point is, some people just cant be straight if their life depended on it.
