Love the idea is really great. The problem is how to tackle anti-social behaviour in social housing. :-)

RE: Property web portal exclusively for housing benefit claimants to go live in Sept.

Thanks Landlordrepairs, we love the idea also !!

Anti-social is a big problem for the sector, however l am firm believe that a better calibre of DSS tenant comes via the web as opposed to more traditional methods of targeting this group...ie. newspaper classified ad's, window cards, etc.

My expereince as both landlord and agent has shown me the web works to find DSS tenants that are less risk and more switched on....these tenants are used to and expect to pay deposits, rent in advance, fees etc.

Thinking back don't think we've had an anti-social issue off a tenant that has signed up to us when introduced via a web advertising method, this is why Dssmove will help the PRS as a whole.

Hi Michael,

Yes, DSSMove is now live >>> here ... and looking good! Smile Congrats to Aki & his team It's a huge effort to launch a new portal.

@Aki

Picking up on your point about LHA tenants found via the web being better quality ... could you explain in more detail why you think that is?

RE: Property web portal exclusively for housing benefit claimants to go live in Sept.

Thanks Property Tribe for all the support to date, it's been a busy 10 days, more and more members joining the site each day. We're getting emails through our Facebook page from tenants saying they need properties listed in certain areas, so as l anticipated the demand is definitely there....really excited to see how the site will develop and enable on-line property searching for thousands of DSS tenants nationally.

Vanessa in response to you:

l honestly think it's because the tenants that have realised property marketing has shifted on-line tend to be more genuine and have more common sense upstairs. We've experienced this first hand through our own letting agency and the on-line enquiries we get are quality enquiries and not from the stereotypical DSS tenant that the letting market assumes gives the landlord or agent hell.

Thanks once again for all your support commenting on this thread, sorry for being absent fo so long, but the phone hasn't stopped ringing.

RE: Property web portal exclusively for housing benefit claimants to go live in Sept.

For those in receipt of benefits who only qualify for a room, not a whole flat or house, there may be a struggle to find appropriate accommodation.

On SpareRoom, you can search for rooms advertised as allowing "DSS" tenants, using the advanced search filters. We've now made these easier ads easier to find, through this page: http://www.spareroom.co.uk/dss. Anyone who has a room to let and who will accept tenants in receipt of benefit can easily advertise it through this page too.

In response to the latest under-occupancy rules and the implications for many householders across the UK, we've realised we need to make it easier for social tenants to find out about renting a room out in their home. This will allow them to stay in their property and to keep most of the extra income, as well as affording the bedroom tax imposed by the new regulations. SpareRoom will be at the Mutual Exchange Fair held at Islington Town Hall today, to discuss the options available to social tenants affected by these changes.
