I looked to connect with you on LinkedIn but could not find you! Can you find me and add me, and then we can connect there too?

Vanessa,

For me, she was hard to find using the LinkedIn search facility. Too many people with the sane first name.

The link that she posted earlier in the thread will take you directly to her profile.

So, how was the property marketing course? I am looking for a great course that I can recommend when people want help on the marketing side of the business.

Worth noting that my blog has a whole category dedicated to my thoughts and strategies for property marketing.

I guess you went to Mark I'Anson's training day at the weekend. Apparently it was very good. What did you think, Neelam?

RE: Recipe for property success ....

Hi Everyone,

RE Property Marketing Course,

The course was organised by a guy called Glenn Armstrong, most have probably heard of him. It was based in Milton Keynes over 2 days and there were about 20 of us who were present. I didn't attend the first day as it would not have been helpful for the strategy that I am working with and the main marketing tutoring was given on the 2nd day, which was yesterday. It costs £350 for 2 days but I struck a deal with the guy and he let me attend the 2nd day only for £180. This is very cheap in comparison to other similar courses which cost thousands. This course was at level 1 and subsequent courses were available for levels 2 and 3 which go into more detail about these strategies.

Overall I was disappointed with the course. I found him not informative enough on the different marketing strategies that were advertised. It was more like a teaser session where he would give us some knowledge of the important elements and then he would start pitching the higher level courses where if we wanted more detailed information we would have to attend those which costs £500+ for level 2 and a few more hundred for level 3. Plus he would continuously plug in other paid memberships for which they are affiliates and entice us to register for these paid services.

The 3 main strategies were the following; Leafleting, newspaper advertising and estate agents. The lefleating and paper ads info was given in great depth and I was happy with what I learnt. If anyone would like samples of these types of advertising you can email me and I can send you an attachment of the exact format and wording that works best. I probably should not be giving this away but willing to handle any consequences which may result in doing so.

We were told we would have the opportunity to role-play the negotiating techniques with the potential vendor when wanting to purchase a property but for some reason this wasn't covered. We did go through some negotiations and how to answer phone calls which was very helpful. They also taught us about the psychology of a seller and how best to win the deal.

Regarding estate agents, it was very brief and I took away only one thing - to bring proof of funds/deposits in order to get on their serious list! How appalling. If we want to know more attend the higher level courses!

That was basically all that was taught plus some other helpful tips like fact finding and websites. Other people may have found it more helpful but this is just my opinion. I personally didn't like Glenns teaching style. He would ask to many personal questions reagarding other people's business like budget, etc. and they clearly did not wish to share this information but he still continued to pry. Also, the first half of the day was wasted by going around each individual to go over their goal setting, strategies and plan of action, and majority of the time I was sat there listening to other people's problems which was not what I was there for. I actually had to leave the room and made a complaint about this. Some other negatives were he is a slow talker, pauses a lot, waffles, digresses and pitches way too much. 75% of what he said was wasteful. He was also not well presented, better if we was wearing a suit as opposed to shorts and trainers!

That's all for now.

Neelam

RE: Recipe for property success ....

Hi Neelam,

With the prevalence of the web, which is impacting every area of business exposure, was there any mention of harnessing the power of the web and digital?

Newspapers are a dying breed .... digital is the way forwards. (As suggested by numerous articles, including this one, that cite the web as the No. 1 reason that newspapers are failing).

You might enjoy this thread which discusses digital marketing for property.
