My European voting paper arrived in the post and it, and this Telegraph article, got me thinking about the next General Election.
I think we will leave the EU but what happens then?
I think there is a huge anger vote coming and my guess is The Tories are totally out of favor and are now a wrecked party
They have upset such a lot of folk
Taxation Of shareholders
Taxation Of Landlords
So the question is who comes to power next our very rich friends are making plans now to leave the UK ? I don't think the reason they are thinking of leaving is due to Brexit - it's all about the fear of Corbyn coming to power
I think most of us are like fish in a barrel : very easy to catch - we don't have the luxury to just move like the super rich
We are yet to see what the Brexit Party has to offer but I think they are a wild card
I think there is a very good chance Labour will win the next election
Labour are courting the "young vote" and this may tip the vote in favour of Labour
Personalty I am not sure what to do ???
I am ploughing on but am I doing the right thing ???
I know one thing - I am heading for my old age Pension and I know at some time I am going to need the help of the NHS and I am a Northern Landlord and in general the North is better off with Labour historically
So for me It might work out well if Labour did come to power.
So what is your game plan? What do you expect to happen? Will you be happy with Labour and how will it effect your business and your wealth?
Learn Change and Adapt ?????

You bring up some very key points... As a relatively new property investor... It seems we are in a climate where both Tories And Labour will be anti landlords. So I'm not sure how much anyone can really do. At the moment as a newbie I'm just trying to seek as much knowledge as possible and speak to a specialist tax expert to be sure I'm doing the right thing!
A point you forgot to mention is it also depends on who the new leader of the Tories is, if and when Theresa May steps down. I feel that may have a bigger part to play in us having a Corbyn Government or not.
My own opinion is if the tories are to have a chance
May Has to go as soon as we are out of the EU which I think she will
The Tories have a lot of Fence meaning to do and that will take a special leader who is that to be I dont know
I think the next election is in 2022 but I think it will come sooner
The Tories wont wish to have a quick election for the fence mending to start
The think I have learned from this is we as Landlords just dont have a political home
And I also believe folk with Dividend Income are in the same situation as us in general
Because of Conservative policy the Rate Support Grant has been cut so much its effecting the every day running of Local govt and they in turn come up with cash raseing schemes ie licence schemes lack of Council Tax exemptions ect for landlords
We just look to see how the Police have been effected
The Tories are very good at passing the buck to councils
If the tories are to have a chance they need to do a lot of work The EU thing is just a complication and its over rideing every thing else
but I feel its the End of the Tories because of it
I think we may need a New Conservative Party Just like New Labour did in the 1990s but they have to lose the next election to become New Conservative first
But who comes to power and I think it has to be Labour.
If by leaving the EU you mean pulling out of the single market - then regardless of which Govt is in play there will be disruption over the next 5 years while the country re-establishes itself. This will be a major distraction for the sitting Govt and will inevitably force them out of office at the next elections.
"The Tories are very good at passing the buck to councils"
And the councils are very good at passing the buck back.... especially non-Tory ones.
Absolutely not Labour, Conservatives have made a mess of Brexit but we do have a stable economy. Labour's ambitions will cripple us we must remember what happened last time labour were in power. The crazy thing is that this time they are telling us how they are going to ruin us, all we have to do is listen to them or read their manifesto !!
I just about manage to afford to send my kids to a local private school which I appreciate is a pure luxury but under labour the fees will have VAT added on.So what I hear you say but many many kids will be forced to leave private schools around the country if this happens which will in turn put all local schools under even more pressure and struggle to cope. This is an example of how short sighted Labour are, they think that we will just be able to pay an extra 20%, the fact is we can’t afford it, so labour won’t make the extra money the think they will make, so they won’t be able to finance one of their many projects we’ve been told about.
And don't even get me started on the £10 minimum wage just to get younger voters.......disgraceful!!
I assume you are joking?
Absolutely not....the country will be worse off and the super rich will be looking to leave rather than be taxed, what positives can you offer ?
Will you leave? I am no fan of Labour. But I do find it hard to square the 'taking pressure off schools' with an increased tax bill. If tax is successfully collected it could be used to fund them... Ultimately if schools are well-funded there will be no pressure on them.
Contrary to newspaper headlines, most tax increases fail to result in swathes of people leaving the country. Perhaps those who would consider doing so have already arranged their affairs to minimise tax - through access to the schemes and inter-country arrangements only the wealthy can access?
Section 24 aside. When I look at the tax rates of myself and my peers and compare it to the average nurse/teacher. I am embarrassed at the contribution we make to a creaking NHS and creating opportunities for the country's children.
Apologies if this view is too 'nationalistic; for some!
I’m not in a position to leave as I’m not one of the super rich and too be honest I don’t want to leave.
There is not one good reason why I would want labour to get in to power. Obviously this is purely for personal reasons and that is all I’m interested in.
If the communists come into power then I expect the Super Rich (Top 1%) to arrange their matters in such a way so that they remain unaffected - sure they might leave the UK, that will be in order for them to take residence elsewhere (tax purposes). The Working Middle Class (who pay a significant proportion of the taxes anyway and are already stressed) - will be stressed even further......their policies are all about spending more, more that we don't have, increasing the debt and the deficit and passing that on to the next tory govt to address.....and the cycle continues.
