  • UNIVERSAL CREDIT AND HOUSING BENEFIT TRAINING

DWP is pressing ahead with the expansion of Universal Credit’s Full Service, which is already operating in Croydon and a number of other London Boroughs. Social and Private landlords already affected, have been reporting worrying hikes in rental loss, due mainly to delays and errors in the initial payment, and problems arising from Alternative Payment Arrangements . We, at Caridon Landlord Solutions (CLS), have been assisting our tenants and clients, overcome some of the many difficulties and problems arising from the new scheme and have secured from DWP compensation for some of our clients’ rental loss.

Most landlords mistakenly assumed Universal Credit would be very similar to Housing Benefit (LHA) but have found to their cost, this is certainly NOT the case. The new scheme has too many differences to explain in this brief; suffice to say few of the differences are beneficial to tenants or indeed their landlords/agents. Caridon Landlord Solutions has a dedicated team of staff who have been trained on all aspects of the old and new schemes, so we know where the areas of potential problems and conflict can arise and how best to tackle issues either through mediation, complaint or appeal. Dealing with DWP has proved very difficult when compared to the good relations we have with many of the London Borough, Housing Benefit teams. DWP teams operate from remote Regional Offices and its staff seem completely ignorant of the many complex housing issues and appear ambivalent to the problems being encountered on a day-2-day basis.

In order to mitigate some of the potential delays in payment, mistakes in assessment and associated rental losses, landlords/agents need to either know all the intricacies of the new scheme themselves or appoint someone to act on their behalf. That’s where CLS can provide added real value to you, oftentimes on a No win, No fee basis, which is a no brainer to most of our existing clients.

Caridon Landlord Solutions (CLS) together with Mr Irvine, has arranged a half day briefing session, aimed at social and private landlords, letting agents and property investors, to highlight and explain some of the key features and complications of the new scheme and how it relates to the Benefits Cap which has had quite a dramatic effect, particularly in both inner and outer London areas. By attending, you’ll hear first-hand from the experts, and some of the delegates own experiences, and, as a result, be better informed and equipped to deal with the challenges ahead. Ultimately, we hope to ensure, wherever possible, you’re able to maximise your income from the new scheme and, protect your investments from unnecessary loss.
