  • Leasehold Property

    Law Commission on leasehold reform

Millions are trapped in this antiquated draconian leasehold system.

This “feudal” form of land ownership exists in no other country it really is about time we Abolished Leasehold once and for all.

Its a shame this system doesn't exist in Europe, wouldn't it be handy to blame the EU!

Maybe the landed gentry sitting in Westminster was so eager to get out of the EU because the EU highlighted the unfairness of the leasehold system?

It won't happen. There are far too many wealthy land owners raking in ground rent and lease extension premiums who have a significant influence on our government. There would be an uproar from these people (party donors?) if they were to suddenly have millions wiped off their freehold investments.

    Agreed, unfortunately.

I am doing a lease enfranchisement and a lease extension in London this year. Do you think it’s worth waiting to see if the lease extensions and enfranchisement may get cheaper following the ongoing consultations? In that I won’t have to pay the freeholders legal and survey fees?

Yes I do believe enfranchisement will get cheaper, fairer. and quicker

But it will need legislation  2 to 3 years at least
