An article about Fergus Wilson has been published and I cannot work out if it is satire or they actually believe the following:Where Fergus Wilson leads, others follow. To criticise him is to be a hypocrite
If there’s one person in the UK, who should be admired as a hero of private rental sector landlords, that man is Fergus Wilson.
At rent.works, we have a google alert set up to see which of his antics the tabloid newspapers are going to get worked up about this week.
And it’s not just the stalwarts of British journalism which get worked up about the millionaire’s seemingly cruel and unusual letting practices. News outlets as far afield as New Zealand are keen to point their antipodean fingers as he turfs pregnant tenants onto the street.
To the world, Fergus Wilson is a villain. To the private rental sector, he’s a guiding light. He’s an early adopter. His actions dictate what is and isn’t acceptable practice in the property management. And why not? Mr Wilson clearly knows what he’s doing, and is supremely competent.Full/source articleThe article is from a site called "Rent Works" which describes itself as "the premier digital magazine dedicated to everyone involved in the fast-moving private rental sector. Written by the industry’s top voices, we bring you balanced and informative articles, expert interviews, original research and the news you need to stay on the leading edge of leasing transactions.". This man is far from my guiding light
He is the face of a landlord who does not help our sector one bit

Someone on Facebook has described him as "the Donald Trump of the PRS". Works for me!
I don't know too much about Mr Wilson but from what I do know he neither represents nor mirrors my style of being a landlord.
I'm not saying this is anyone else's style but my stance is that I do not have a " profit at any cost" mentality. I try to fix anything wrong as quickly as possible and I ask for just under market rents as that keeps my properties full.
I don't waste money but have bought carefully in a different area from where i live, with my tenants likely daily routine in mind e.g. what transport links will they use. This has always been more important to me than capital appreciation or buying "cheap". If it's that price there's likely a reason.
So far, in 8 years I have had 1 void day across my small portfolio. I have thus been able to gradually pay down mortgages. My yields therefore are reliable and my kids future is assured while I and my tenants have a decent life.
Fergus reminds me of Mike Robertson, founder and owner of the Trago Mills chain.
These controversial characters challenge legislation, sometimes effectively, other times they are wide of the mark.
Mike was loathed by the local authorities but generally respected by the community. I suspect Fergus is in a similar position.
one might say some legislation is brought in due to individuals like this? i have mixed opinions.
in some ways admiration for an entrepreneur and good story of what can be achieved.
Growing too big ,greedy and lack of diversification issues in small geographical location.
unintended consequence of a local monopoly (PT link to previous discussion 4 years ago)
just cos you can buy up the whole street of terraces in an area. morally should you?
maybe is exit strategy was not well though out??
addicted to buying houses?
i would like to think, if i was the Wilsons position i would be doing more for charity and making a difference in non glory headline grabbing way.
but then again i have no idea if he does this already. ( media is biased in so many ways)
Just because you are a character doesn't mean that you have character.
i wish the Wilsons a good retirement.

Wisdom - an integration of knowledge, experience, and deep understanding that incorporates tolerance for the uncertainties of life as well as its ups and downs.
I do what FW does.
I wouldn't have tenants who damage a property with cooking smells whatever their ethnicity.
I know who are the ones that would damage my property.
I would turf out pregnant mothers if I was in a council area which had such stupid regulations requiring a gas boiler to be fixed immediately or big fines.
Cause and effect is what it is all about.
FW is just reacting to silly regulations.
I do the same as him but nobody knows about me and I certainly don't advertise I do the same as FW.
- thread divergence asking Are landlords Narcissists to some degree?
i like to think i pose the questions that others fear to ask ( but then this might be my narcissistic ego at play) LOL
A hero? No he is annoying as hell and gives landlords such bad PR damage that its incalculable. Why he wants to brief the press on his latest odd stunt is beyond me! If your going to do crazy shit, do it in silence please.
How can David Rutland say Fergus "knows what hes doing" and "competent" when he's in court multiple times for his actions - from attacking his agent, to discrimination and I forget what latest one is, sexism? Evicting pregnant mums?
I guess he still has not sold his portfolio, he's being doing that for many years now. Hurry up Fergus!

You clearly are listening to fake news
It is not discrimination choosing not to take on certain ethnicities who damage property by their lifestyle.
Nor is it incorrect to boot out single mothers if the council has some ridiculous regulations which would result in the LL being massively fined.
You are believing fake news.
Remember those offering up fake news invariably have a left-wing agenda.
FW is behaving in a perfectly businesslike fashion and faced with the issues he has come across I would respond exactly the same way.
Don't believe what the usual left-wing media outlets state.
It is invariably fake news like the classic BBC one stating S24 is removal of generous tax breaks
The BBC refuses to correct their fake news.
I believe there are still restaurants, retailers, clubs, etc. that do not allow entry if you are not wearing the appropriate clothing.
This could be considered discriminatory but appears to be accepted as their business decision.
