The image that sums up landlord apathy

good idea!  This would be perfect if done by PT or NLA or RLA - and get them great publicity.

I network quite a bit in Bussinenss

since S24 was first talked about I have gone out of my way to outline S24 to every person I meet

They understand Stamp Duty but there is great mystery over S24

This i belive is the issue

Most folk have issues undertanding Pensions ??? so what chance have we with S24

also the time delay is also not helping others to understand its like the BRITEX thing we are out of Europe but it dosent feel anything haas changed

George also said it will only hit a small number of Landlords which is totaly untrue

We can all jump up and down and say Please Listen but you can not force someone to drink water if they dont want too

If you are informed and understand S24 and the possible other pit falls that the Govt wil throw our way you may change or adapt your bussiess

if you dont wake up you are in for one hell of a shock

I still belive this will do great harm in the form of a Crash and a great number of Landlords will go into negitive equity

So the die is cast its only a matter of time Now ??

and I say this again the SE will be hardest hit I glad i am in the North

There is only so much you can do to inform people of changes before an event before you reach a critical mass.. The event hasnt even started yet so we are on a slow wicket anyway.  I dont think S24 will precipitate a housing crash because it is not going to be a sudden event like a car crash when you may have only one second to take avoiding action before a sudden and potentially catastrophic impact .

We have preparation time .. Its been set up quite cleverly in fact  so more and more peole will be more and more adversely affected but very gradually not suddenly. Its a controlled descent into financial pain. Each year, each tax return will bring more pain. Each year more and more  people will become aware. Us smart cookies will say impatiently and perhaps a bit smugly  to them .... Yes yes yes I knew all about that 1/2/3/4 years ago..... What you want to do is this mate.....

In 2016 though however hard one tries  and many notable people have and are trying very hard    to spread the word it will fall on many deaf ears...its like being at the doctors and being told you have a serious debilitating illness but cant feel any pain so ignore it . Some people of course refuse to  even go to the doctors to hear bad news. They bury their head in the sand.

I need to lose 2 stone and stop eating pizza but i dont want to hear  a doctor keep  telling me that as i put another spinach and ricotta deep pan in the oven  -  The doctor says if you take this S24  pill you will mitigate the effects. Some will take the pill  straight away. Some will say stuff and nonsense and not take it some  will reluctantlay interrupt their  life and take it 2 years down the line when they cotton on to the increasing pain they are feeling. Some wont even take it after 4 years when the pain is excrutiating.

But thats life.  The resulting effect is  no mass panic no mass crash no mass death of investor landlords over night.  That would adversely affect the whole country and hurt many many people it was not designed to affect. So I see no doom and gloom just a financial reality gradually kicking which I have to work around.  And something for me to tackle slowly and methodically after my cup of morning tea each day.   Keep spreading the word though. The world needs more Dr Dislexic`s

I was on the panel yesterday; myself and the others had other things we would rather be doing. I am back there today too. The fact however is that if everyone took the can't be arsed view then there wouldn't even be a S24 campaign at all.

This is not about making it interesting or getting it online this is about galvanising support, not only amongst ourselves but showing support for those like Steve and Chris who have committed so much already.

That was an event FOR landlords; the venue was full of them so it shouldn't have been much of an effort to fill that room with a ready made audience.

What was even more depressing was to come out and see it was standing room only at a seminar being run by a 'guru' known for ripping people off and flogging yet more courses!

As for ideas such as a rent rise day; why not? First off it's an idea and at least people have come up with something! Try coming up with ideas instead of tearing apart others.

But more than that I'm sick to the back teeth of being told I should be ashamed of being a landlord, told to fear lefties and Shelter et al.

I provide decent homes to many people, I provide for myself and my family now and will hopefully provide for my pension cos no other bugger will and so I don't have to depend on the state. Above all else I am running a BUSINESS. No one has a go at Tesco for providing a basic need of food, I don't see why we should feel ashamed for providing another one. Frankly if you're ashamed to be a landlord and to make a stand for your industry then I'm not sure you should be in it!

No one is talking about increasing rents to get back at tenants! It's about saying rents are going to have to go up, my tenants will suffer and as such WE as an industry are making a stand unilaterally. Yes a PR stunt because that's what it needs.

I was in the taxi going home and got chatting to the driver as he asked where we had been. Turns out he was a landlord of two properties intended for his children as were many of his friends and family. But unsurprisingly hadn't heard about the campaign nor that it had been in court this week. Well unless we do something pretty dramatic no one is going to hear about it are they!

It's ok to (potentially) put lives at risk if you're a doctor going on strike or cause transport chaos but God forbid landlords should make a stand about their livelihood. Doctors do it for themselves as well as their patients, we are doing it for ourselves and our tenants - nothing wrong with that.

If we are ashamed of what we do why should we expect anyone else to care? Why not start getting a positive message out there. What that message will be is what the debate was partly about given the legal challenge won't work. Attending means you show support for those who've given already, who do make the effort and to get involved.

Finally sadly landlords are hated, I can't ever see us being liked, no matter how good our PR so what the hell have we got to lose except for many; homes, businesses, livelihoods, pensions!

You can't complain if you didn't at least try to make a stand.

    Excellent stuff .

    Question Lisa -

How many people will read your post on PT here  versus  How many people will hear your message in person today ?

Is your positive kick up the bum style better served on PT more regulary to spread the word

I used to organise meetings for the community in a previous life  - sometimes 4 turned up when I had hoped for 50.. Yes it can feel  soul destroying

When social media came about  I could though motivate and galvanise an audience of hundreds with a short positive one liner. More Time /cost effective ?

We need both but who is measuring the effectiveness.........

PS For a number of reasons I actually stand to make more money out of S24 but that doesn't mean it's right; it absolutely isn't for a host of reasons and as such I am prepared to make a stand and put myself out when I'd rather do other things.

I think being a mortgage broker is key to making money out of S24 in the short term

ltd co mortgages, remortgaged to long term fixes etc

very fat fees around on those products just now & a pretty motivated pool of customers

as with other 'gold rushes' being involved in the supply of shovels can be a good business

Well said Lisa!  To see a guru get standing room only when credible people like yourself and the MD of ARLA could only muster around 20 people made me feel very despondent.  You were sharing real life information, the guru was selling a ticket to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  I guess that is just a reflection of the fact that people want to be sold a dream?

It's also interesting to see that the JR case has hardly been mentioned on the FB Groups used by gurus for marketing.

For them, it's business as usual, and the less people that know about it the better, as far as they are concerned. Sad
