  • Buy-to-Let

    The marketing of the PRS

Surely any property now owned by LL was bought on the open market!?

All those council houses were sold by probably the owner to whoever.

There was no law preventing an ex-council house being prevented from being let out....................perhaps there should have been a permanent RTB covenant to prevent anyone ever letting the property out.

But there wasn't one and so we are where we are.

It is funny you stating the council houses have been upgraded by the council.

It always used to be that the council houses were the grotty ones due to lack of funding.

With all the attacks on LL it is hardly surprising if LL don't upkeep the properties to the same condition.

They simply haven't got the money after paying for S24 etc!!!!!

Why doesn't Govt offer a buy back of council properties owned now by LL?

Offer a discounted price for no CGT.

LL would sell to the Govt en-masse!!

A very quick way to build Council houses is not to build them but buy them back

It would cost billions but would be a very effective way to get rid of the LL who I'm sure would be only too delighted to sell off these properties at a discount if no CGT!!!!

The council would then pay less in HB for those now council properties if it chooses to charge just the LHA rate.

Everyone's a winner apart from the still to be born who will be paying for such largesse in their taxes!!!

It may be that the council and housing associations receive a grant to upgrade the properties which must be spent within the financial year for them to receive a grant in the following financial year hence you see the properties being upgraded.
