    Tonight on C5 - sub-let scammer & family feud

I can't disagree that the owners of these sites shoulder some degree of responsibility. But to hold them completely responsible for this would be like holding eBay responsible for someone selling stolen goods or Autotrader responsible for sellers selling stolen cars.

The fact is they can easily do something about it so they absolutely should and that is what matters. It is a very slippery slope holding site owners totally responsible for what their visitors do, I am sure Vanessa will agree with me on this one.

Guys help me out with this.

"I commented : “Han Yip was very unlucky. He had done everything correctly, from using a professional letting agent to carrying out thorough referencing. Unfortunately, this particular fraudster had changed the spelling of his name among other tricks to slip through referencing.  Illegal sub-letting is becoming something of an epidemic in London and more needs to be done to prevent cases like these.”

before you submit for referencing, don't agents ask for passport or other government i.d to make sure his legally allowed to rent? How is it that he managed this? Or was it an online process where he fills in details and submits it via online form direct to reference agency?
