Who has NEVER been on a training course here?

It would be interesting to see who has never been on a training course, or if you have, how long ago was the last one and what did you learn about?

Since discovering internet forums back in the early 2000's (Singing Pig for those of you who remember it!) I decided that courses weren't for me. I have asked a LOT of questions over the years on several forums (Singing Pig and PT) and what I like most about them is the variety of answers you get - some you will like, others you won't, but it's all been for free!

I cannot remember actually going on a property course, and I have a feeling that the hardcore investors on here haven't been on many either???

If I'm right with my assumption above, how have you learnt and how/do you continue to learn, and from what sources?

Landlord since Jan 2002. Haven't paid for a single course, training, mentorship or book

Didn't know any other landlords when I started so I had to teach myself. Mainly forums, speaking to my accountant and other like minded people (but not landlords)

Continue to learn. Listen to various podcasts and what I can learn from places like PT

Been doing it on and off nearing 20 years part time never been on a course guess self taught and by asking questions. if started now, Wouldn’t have bought half properties I did but going on any course would have told me this.

Might say the same again in 10 years who knows.

Don’t see personally any benefits from a course, however would if started from nothing ask to work for free with a builder

    Hi Heather,

So delighted to hear PT has been a useful guide for you.

Could you be so kind as to review Property Tribes on TrustPilot?  All that we ask is that you do not mention myself or Nick as it is the community that makes PT the valuable resource it is! Smile

Went on an LLAS accreditation course in 2011 in order to be eligible for discounts on selective licensing ( complete waste of time as it earnt me a £100 discount for 8 flats and the course cost more than that by itself) learnt nothing i could’nt get from the RLA website, and after i was accredited the only contact i ever got was emails trying to sell me more courses, not one piece of free information provided in 5 years.

Just another part of the legislative money making farce.

Never been on a property course

    I learn empirically

I did however 20 years ago go on a free `how to start up a business` course ran by Chamber of Commerce

Loved it  . Good content on all the various aspects required to set me on my way

Best bit though was meeting other entrepreneurs and seeing what spread of  ideas they had

I realised - and this was important to me - that   i wasn't alone and that I wasn't crazy

I went on a GDPR course last year, but have never been on a property one.

When I started I was unemployed and since I was starting a business I was transfered to the NEA and that required me to attend training regarding setting up a business.

I've never been on a property course and got into property in 1997.

Always followed my passion / hobby which is property and instinct of what felt right.

I have made many property mistakes so treat this as a rather expensive education.

I think you have to be a bit of a risk taker. If you are not a risk taker there is no point on going on property courses - this cannot be learned. A good friend of mine went on multiple property networking courses / events but was risk adverse and to my knowlege never managed to buy a single BTL. He endlessly analysed every deal to the point of paralysis!

There is an advert on this site about an event at Old Trafford Manchester . The organisers can’t know anything about football as they don’t realise they are excluding from attending most football fans ie anyone who doesn’t support Man United ! Do they seriously think Liverpool ,Man City , Leeds United fans etc would attend an event there ?
