Wave Goodbye to old Property Tribes ... Say Hello ... New PT will go live next week !!! **Please read**

Well, we were beginning to wonder if this day would ever come, but finally, after months of work, I am delighted to announce that the new Property Tribes platform is finished!  Our new home will go live on Monday next week (pending any last minute glitches).
It's been a long journey & massive learning curve for a small site that was started in February 2009 for V to chat with a few of her/our property friends.  Little did we know that the tribe would grow and grow and come together to create a site that is such an incredible resource for Landlords.  After all, there are 1.2 million of them in the U.K. and they desperately need to learn, as we all do.
The success of the site is down to one thing ... YOU!
Bearing this in mind, the concept of the new platform has been designed around the nature of how people have been interacting with, and using the old site.  Much attention has been paid to the User Interface to ensure that information that is relevant to you is consistently on tap.  We've always maintained that property investment is never a case of "one size fits all", so the new site can be customised to your preferences, both in respect of information and people.
Moving house is always challenging.  The new site will seem strange ... at first.  You may look at it and miss the "old PT".  We do understand that.  However, the similarities will always be there, and the ethos and philosophy of the original site remains unchanged, so, slowly, a bigger, better, faster, stronger, and smarter Property Tribes will emerge.
I will have more to say on the matter but for now I'm going to start by letting you know what to expect.

Firstly the web address of this site will defer to propertytribes.com (which will be the URL from then on). However, I can transfer your user names but not your passwords (for obvious reasons). Therefore, the following needs to happen to allow access:

1. Click "Login"

2. Click "Lost your password?"...

3. Enter your email address and click "Request username/password":

4. You should then receive an email with subject line "Password Reset at PT Forum". Follow the instructions, and you should get a confirmation message:

5. You should received another email with subject "New password at PT Forum", which will contain your new password.

You should now be able to log in.

There you go, that will get you in a running from day one. In the mean time I will be writing about what the new site can and will do - up to and including being able to customise the information that you want to receive.
Needless to say this info will be on the new site for those that do not get this. Thanks for your support and patience as the change-over happens.

This is really good news.Quick query: there are several years' worth of valuable, searchable, archived information here now - do we lose it all on transfer?

Nothing will be lost Brian - all will go over. It will be the same but different - everyone will have access to what they have done and can search all that has been written.

Part of the change has been a smarter search widget.

Phew! Thanks, Nick.  That's more important to me than my words could tell. One day, I'll get reincarnated as my twin, who could, no doubt, do incredibly demanding stuff like 'copy and paste'.  Then, I won't get years behind with valuable research (like wot you've got stored up in 'ere).  Thanks for saving my bacon meanwhile, though.  I live to fight on another day.  I must be the arch procrastinator - even reincarnation is now delayed in my case.Good on yer.;-)

Nick,

I am excited by the pending change. Well done sir.

I am sure we all will have a few days of being slightly disorientated. Once we get the hang of it, I expect all will be good or even great.

Bring on Monday!

Will we be able to access what others have said, as I am not the slightest bit interested in what I have said.

It is what others have said that is valuable to me.

LOL nothing to be scared of Jonathan.

I expect it to be a little like facebooks changes, in the short term it, probably, will be strange but ultimately it will become easy. The bottom line, for me, was to make the access to information smarter, each of us is/are looking for different stuff and as the web becomes ever more congested the need to filter will become evermore important.

Nick, I've saved the URLs for certain discussion threads I've found interesting. I'm guessing when you move to the new platform, these URLs won't work. Should I re-search for these threads on the new platform, using key phrases from them?

Andrew.
