    RLA Principles of Lettings Course

Do you want to be recognised as a ‘great’ landlord or you are already taking steps towards accreditation? Are you a start-up, thinking of starting or already have a portfolio of one or two or even hundreds of properties? Then this course is for you. Letting Agents and their staff who want to learn about lettings from the landlords perspective may also like to attend.

Lettings can be a minefield and a legal understanding of the main issues is very important. Attending a course that takes you through the fundamentals of being a landlord is integral to clearing any grey areas over what landlord’s obligations and responsibilities are, not only with your property, but with your tenants too. So what better way to understand lettings, than with the RLA’s Principle...read more

    RLA Principles of HMO's Course

A house in multiple occupation (HMO) is property with multiple tenants who do not form one single family or household. Investments in houses under multiple occupancy can be very profitable with high returns on investment, but the management of HMO is far stricter for the landlord and anyone managing the property (e.g. Letting/Managing Agent).

Recent changes have given greater enforcement powers to local authorities with the introduction of civil penalties and Rent Repayment Orders, significantly increasing financial penalties that local authorities can apply to landlords and managers who do not meet their obligations. A 'manager' can be a letting/managing agent or the landlord who has a direct involvement in the day to day running of the property, so it is vitally imp...read more

Homelessness - A thing of the past?

    *OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE*

North Somerset Council are now working in collaboration with local landlords on a brand new solution “The Ark Passport Scheme” to help more benefit assisted and low income tenants secure private rented accommodation.

A shortage of affordable housing and the introduction of Universal credit*, which restricts the payments of rents direct to landlords, has led to significant difficulties for benefit claimants to access affordable homes.

The Ark Passport Scheme aims to address this and allows tenants to separate and prioritise rent and other important payments. It provides a banking facility which creates a secure payment &l...read more

RLA Property Standards and Safety Course

Is your property up to current standards?

The most important legal obligation for the condition of rented properties is not concerned with whether or not your premises are in good repair, but its effect on the health and safety of the occupants and visitors.

Clearly repair is important as legal action may be taken by tenants, but premises which are in good repair can still result in prosecution so it is essential to create a safe and healthy environment for your tenants and visitors.

The course will walk you through a typical dwelling, outline the most common rating system issues and how to deal with them. It will outline the law, contained in the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), and investigate common issues which landlords and agents ...read more

It is important that you are aware of all the important changes.

This half day course will inform attendees of changes to their rights and responsibilities and highlight the legislative and Court rulings which have brought about the amendments. The course will concentrate o...read more
