upmystreet.co.uk is to be a good way to get a quick overview of an area, now it has been closed down, what are the other options?

Another one worth a try is Checkmyarea which paints a fairly accurate financial picture across different social groups.
Also one for the curtain twitchers amongst you might be Fix my street which will at the very least guide you towards (or away from!) the popular roads to dump any old unwanted settees and bedding! Stats-wise Neighbourhood Statistics takes some beating but to get the most from it you'll need to get familiar with undertanding the nitty-gritty and finding the most appropriate datasets down to LSOA level (Lower Layer Super Output Area). Some datasets are as far as a census behind whereas others are very recent. Follow |

RE: What are people doing now that upmystreet.co.uk is no more?
Iggy, it got swallowed up by Zoopla. Don't know why they closed it without building equivalent functionality into their own site first though - very annoying!
This one looks potentially quite useful: http://www.uklocalarea.com/index.php. Doesn't recognise my parents' postcode though, or the Birmingham postcode of one of the houses we own, and both were built in 1970 so they've been there a while! The forum doesn't seem to actually exist either. I think it's quite a new site so maybe they're still ironing out glitches. Alongside Pat's Checkmyarea there's also the Checkmyfile postcode check(http://www.checkmyfile.com/postcode-check/ - links not working for me), which gives slightly different info. Walkscore (http://www.walkscore.com/) is quite useful, though it doesn't tell you much about the socio-economic picture and has a rather strange idea of what constitutes entertainment! ![]() http://www.brumhomes.co.uk Follow |

Just up-dating this thread ....
There is a new site called Property Notepad that brings together all aspects of due diligence into one place. It's a good tool for finding all the due diligence you need in one place. House Critter recommends the following related discussions:You know to walk away from a property deal when .... Slower broadband speed could hinder house prices and rent-ability Police crime statistics as an indicator of location suitability? 6 keys to making good property investment choices If there was one place in the U.K. where you would never buy property, where is it? RE: What are people doing now that upmystreet.co.uk is no more?
Check my area has been a good one that I have been using for a while.
Still do not think there is anything better than getting in the area, cultivating local relationships. Personally, I have been saved on a number of potential deals by speaking to people from the area, and then doing my research on the back of their comments. Your council is likely to have a website with plans, statistics, meeting notes from landlord forums...these are the type of resources that are largely untapped by investors because it takes a while to sift through everything. Try searching for your "Local Enterprise Partnership" (wording may be different for the organisation in your area) as they tend to have a lot of research into housing.
