Looks like some policies finally coming out. Now he just needs to get them accepted or take over controls.
Boris Johnson has suggested the UK employ Donald Trump-style tax cuts in a bid to catch up with the economic growth being enjoyed in the US.
The former foreign secretary believes income tax, stamp duty and capital gains tax should all be slashed - measures likely to appeal to Conservative voters at a time he is being tipped to launch a leadership challenge.
Speculation is rife that Mr Johnson is weighing up a move to displace Theresa May, despite his latest Brexit intervention prompting a furious backlash from senior Tories.
Won't be long until he is in charge, will hopefully give the treasury the boot and we can get the insane policies of the last few years kicked out. He might make silly comments but he knows exactly what he's doing and it really is working, a lot of people I know want him in charge, we've had too many wet leaders lately.
Good call! Not confident they would happen though.
Reading his column, it does seem that Boris' views on tax are more in line with those you would expect from the Conservative Party. More recently it feels as though the Conservatives have become more like old Labour and Labour has become almost communist.
If you actually look in detail at the process of electing a leader of the Conservative Party, Boris faces one hell of a task to usurp May. He has to get a vote of no confidence in the PM which she has to lose. Then he has to get on the ballot paper as a candiate and then he needs to get the majority of Tory MPs to vote for him in the Commons. Apart from about 25 hard core supporters in the House, he is universally loathed by the rest of the elected Tory MPs. He may think it is his destiny, and he sees himself as some sort of Churchililan Saviour of the Tory Party and the country. But there are a lot of people working quietly behind the scenes to ensure that it does not happen.
I agree with your sums - while he has support amongst the grass roots he will have a difficult time getting enough support from him own MPs to get through to the second round.
Should Brexit go badly for the Tories and they revert to the pre Cameron years of going through one leader after another (Hague, Duncan-Smith...) they may have to revert to Boris to make them
an electable force - he managed to win the London Mayoral election at the height of Blairism and then he won the referendum, he can win an election that I have no doubt! But can he win over the MPs???
whilst I agree with his tax policies, given what he has done to this country, it's good to see the crowdfunding campaign to prosecute him for misconduct in public office (over the bus lies) is gathering steam - around 50k raised so far. in just a couple of days. view it here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/brexitjusticeprosecution
