    3 things: 3 must attend events - Spring 2018

Welcome to Day 18 of our "3 things" month of themed content featuring exclusive content to help landlords navigate the year ahead.  We are approaching the end of the campaign and we hope you've been enjoying the daily instalments.

Throughout the campaign, many of the commentators have highlighted the importance of education and networking.

Whilst there are many ways on-line such as forums, webinars, podcasts, etc. attending off-line events is a great way to learn, grow, and build your network of contacts, and put a face to some of the avatars you have met on social media.

For today's instalment, we showcase three "must attend" events that landlords can book onto this Spring:

    1.  The Landlord and Investment Shows

These free events bring together landlords, educators, property commentators, and exhibitors into a great day out for learning and networking.

The "expert panel" debate for the Olympia Show in the 15th March is shaping up and you can find out more and book your free tickets >>> here.

    2.  Improving Standards in the Private Rented Sector: Tackling Rogue Landlords & Preventing Overcrowded Housing

    Date:  Thursday 29th March, London

This month the Government announced new measures to tackle rogue landlords, including powers to allow local authorities to issue banning orders for the worst offenders and the introduction of a database of rogue landlords and property agents in April 2018.

At the same time, the Government confirmed it will support the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation and Liability for Housing Standards) Bill, which would allow tenants to take their landlords to court if they do not ensure their property is fit for human habitation.

Join Westminster Briefing on 29th March for an up-to-date brief on how new and existing powers can be used to tackle rogue landlords and prevent overcrowded housing.

Key Issues to be Addressed Include:

    • Introduction of ‘banning orders’ and a new database of rogue landlords/letting agents
    • Extending mandatory licensing of and minimum size requirements for HMOs
    • Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation and Liability for Housing Standards) Bill
    • Using Housing & Planning Act powers to tackle rogue landlords
    • Preventing overcrowding in HMOs
    • Using licensing powers effectively
    • Learning from current good practice

    The Event:

The morning will focus on the Government's policy agenda for improving standards in the private rented sector, as well as how to effectively use existing powers to tackle rogue landlords.

The afternoon will examine best practice in preventing overcrowding in the private rented sector.

    Who Should Attend?

Anyone with an interest in tacking rogue landlords and preventing overcrowded housing, including: local authorities; landlords; representative groups & solicitors.
