£900 for New Selective Licence - UK highest!

Barking and Dagenham have increased their selective license fee 78% to a massive £900 per property from the 1st September 2019. No early fee discount either! This has got to be the highest charge in the UK to date?

Surely this can not be justified or legal? This is a perfect example of illegal profiteering by money grabbing councils.

Where are the RLA and NLA in this? I’ve not heard anything from them regarding this outrage. How do we fight this?

No doubt other councils will follow Barking’s lead and dramatically hike their fees as well in the not too distant future!

Thanet district council were one of the first on the SL bandwagon, they’ve renewed it once, current scheme ends in april 2021, going to be interesting to see if they try and designate again and what excuses they’ll have for not having succeeded  in 10 years and why they think another 5 will make a difference.
Bit of a double edged sword , they won’t want to give up the revenue stream , but wanting to extend again will be an acceptance that SL is a flawed concept.

East Herts is between £910 to £1250! The latter being if they’ve come to you and found you without a licence.

    Hackney £950!

I must have properties in two of the most expensive areas!!

It’s for the licence . The HMO liscenses are generally up to 5 years not annual charges.

I don’t know what it’s like elsewhere but only the good compliment landlords have them... as I know plenty  of other landlords who haven’t got them.

I’ve got a friend who hasn’t had one for 10 or so years and believes when they chase him then he’ll get one, if they ever do...?

Money for old rope if you ask me...

    Hounslow 1200 per property......

if that's how much it costs for administration then they seriously need to look at their productivity and efficiency......

Just to be clear £900 charge is for a single let property not an HMO. For an HMO it is £1300.

I am afraid its an easy one for them to raise monies. One starts and the rest follow.
