April is "Tenancy Deposit Protection Month" on Property Tribes, powered by TDS

We are pleased to announce that April on Property Tribes is themed "Tenancy Deposit Protection Month", powered by The Dispute Service (TDS).

TDS is an independent, not-for-profit, company established in 2003 to resolve tenancy deposit disputes in the private rented sector. The company has achieved the UK Government Standard for Customer Service Excellence, and won Tenancy Deposit Service of the Year at the PropertyDrum B2B awards 2012. TDS operate the Tenancy Deposit Scheme in accordance with the requirements of the Housing Act 2004. This provides a dispute resolution service should a dispute about the allocation of a deposit arise at the end of the tenancy.

Throughout the month, we will be working with TDS on a raft of activities to promote deposit protection best practice.

The campaign will kick-off on the 1st April with a themed month of deposit protection content and information in a special “pop up” category that will run throughout the month, “powered by …” TDS.

TDS will be populating this category with information to help landlords understand the importance of deposit protection and ensure they get it right from the start of the tenancy.

Steve Harriott, Chief Executive of TDS (pictured below) said “I am delighted that Property Tribes is dedicating this month to raising awareness of tenancy deposit protection. As a not for profit organisation TDS spends a lot of time helping people understand deposit protection and encouraging them to take advantage of the benefits it brings; higher standards, greater transparency, and better relationships between landlords and tenants.

“We are very aware that landlords have concerns about deposit protection and unintentionally falling foul of the law. The expert information we are sharing with the Property Tribes community this month is invaluable for landlords and it is a great opportunity for them put questions to us directly.”

Nick Tadd, co-founder of Property Tribes commented: “Since its inception in 2009, Property Tribes has always been about best practice and helping landlords understand their legal obligations, ensuring compliance at all times.

We are delighted to be working with TDS on this special themed month to highlight the important issue of deposit protection. Educating landlords is a crucial role of our community, and having TDS as part of that process is a big step forwards for us. We have found that themed months really concentrate the “hive mind” on a particular topic. The timing is perfect, as there are various changes coming to the tenancy deposit landscape that landlords need to be aware of including tenancy deposit protection coming to Northern Ireland".

Following the themed month of April, TDS will continue to be involved with Property Tribes for a further 5 months, powering a “Question of the month” to keep deposit protection at the forefront of landlords minds.

The campaign will include deposit protection information, video interviews, event details, case studies, and help & advice for landlords with deposit protection questions and issues.

Property Tribes caught up with TDS recently at one of their Academy training workshops and recorded this video:

Further dates for the TDS Academy are:

2nd April: Bristol – Hilton Garden Inn

    9th April: London, Novotel Waterloo

12th June: Leeds (AM) Jurys Inn

We look forward to working with TDS to help promote deposit protection and setting up a tenancy correctly from the start, as this is proven to avoid disputes later down the line.

I'd like to give a very big thank you to Nick and Vanessa for dedicating this month to tenancy deposit protection.

Many landlords are uncertain about the law and worried about unintentionally falling foul of it it. There is also a lot of inaccurate information online which we always try to hunt down and get corrected, I hope members of the Property Tribes community will take this opportunity to come to us direct with anything you are uncertain about.

I hope you find our information useful, if there are any specific resources you think will be useful just give us a shout.

    Enjoy tenancy deposit protection month!
