Better Guidance for Newbies, in navigating PT

Hi V, N and all Tribers,

Like others, I have also finally bit bullet to join PT (due diligence). Like others, I have struggled to get to this New Members page (surely this Tribe name should start with an "!" mark - eg: "!-New members", so it appears at the top of the Tribes list and then just jumps out at you...

and then finding out, there is "probation" ?

Perhaps newbies could be guided in a more obvious way to House Keeping for example, and explaining the meaning of, and need for Probation...  (searching on Probation didn't help much)

Not complaining, PT looks like fantastic resource, mine of information - and so much digging to do - just asking for some help in getting started with using site to best advantage.

..aha, perhaps a "Starter Page", more prominent for newcomers, with embedded links to useful pages, on how to bla bla.... etc   - unless I missed that one!

eg, by trial and error I found the useful feature of listing which threads I have already replied to, so far...  alas, it's not obvious I have to go to my "Account", and where is that anyhow ?

Sorry, I'm not a whinger, and I do intend create posts, to get into some nitty gritty - eg, do I build portfolio, HMO or PR, or do I supplement pension; do I wait for next cycle; how best to use unemcumbered (which your spell checker doesn't like!) property - a phrase I had never heard, before PT - etc. Of which there are some fantastic threads already, which brought me here in the 1st place...

There is wonderful stuff here, absolutely no worries about that, and fantastic, knowledgeable (took me 5 goes to spell that right - it's been while) , experienced "old-uns"  ;-D -  to learn from...   hope I can contribute... albeit I'm a bit nervous, in bearing my sins, and my soul!

(No, I get it,  you're surreptitiously sorting out the wheat from the chaff...  aha, phew!  ;-D )

((Now, do I click Post, gulp!... ))

    regards...

If you are new to property, you will have some greater challenges than finding your way around this forum. Welcome and best of luck. Ask some questions and you will soon get some answers.

ps. It is considered impolite to criticise the forum on your first day

pps. spellchecker is ok with 'unencumbered' - the correct spelling

Gary, thanks,- of that you are right, I know - maybe I am in the chaff dept, at the moment,  ;-) !?

    - Not too critical I hope - just a bit stuck in places, and asking for hepl - part of PT's remit, no ?

(- arghh - sneaky 'm' in wrong place - thanks)

Sorry, probably said too much on my 1st day, eh!

    Hi and welcome.

The vast majority of the information you require is in Housekeeping and for anything else you only have to ask.

Probation is common on all forums and there is nothing suspicious or different about it here.  It is to stop people spamming the community with links and private messaging people when they have not contributed anything.  All forums have these protocols.

Your account is top left in the panel beside your avatar and comes out as a "draw" when you press on your avatar.

"Feeds" is where you see all the discussions and tribes you have subscribed to.

There are many different "views" of the forum in terms of how you can access content and people find their own preferred view and method including lots of short cuts which you will learn as you use the site more.

The best way to get to know the site is to start pressing buttons and seeing what happens.

    Hope that helps?

Welcome to Forum and may the learning curve be short.

Here is an extract on something that might help further.

As the site is indexed in Google.

Search term plus adding property tribes can also yield information or starting point.

      E.g  section 24 property tribes.

My posts are Strewn with grammar and spelling errors. So there is irony ( my new favourite term) in pointing this out.

    unemcumbered = unencumbered

it's an N that's why spell check dislikes it.  Smile

    Have great day
