    Business Rates - Personal Use

    Hi all,

I have been researching whether I would need to pay business rates on a commercial property which I will be using to store personal items. There are a few things which I would like to put away secure but it would seem if I purchase a warehouse even if its for my use only I will still have to pay business rates for the pleasure.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks,

    George

Are there any exceptions? I genuinely just want a little more space for my stuff, a dry place to store my old car etc!!

I think you can get rate relief if the property is under a certain size, that being said, I'm not 100% certain that you have to be a business to get the relief, or it is a standard due to the size. google, business rate relief and it might clear it up for you.

Have you thought about a  garage . I store my extra stuff in these. Use 3 .

You can rent them for about £40 pcm in my area.

Mine come with my houses and i do a deal with the tenants so cost me nothing in effect
