    Charge on local authority search

Hi. I have acquired a property at auction and it has around £20k charge from the local authority which was found on the local searches.
The charge was put on by the council in 2016 as the property was in defective order and the council undertook works.
Is anyone familiar with this? Is there any way I can argue against this and get it removed? Thank you in advance

As I understand it (though check with the auction house):
The title should be clear after the auction, as in the vendor needs to repay this £20k charge.
If it is not repaid, then the council won't give permission to release the title to you.

Thank you. My solicitor said completion wont be affected and just to contact the council after this.
