Eradicating Knotweed - What Did It Cost You?

    Hi All

I'm considering purchasing a semi detached property that, according to the survey report, has "evidence of knotweed".

Even though this is a steel frame house and has knotweed, the lender is still prepared to grant a mortgage.  They have not made any stipulations about dealing with the knotweed but before I sign the contract, I would like to get some idea of how much it can cost to eradicate it.

If you've had to call in a specialist to eliminate it I'd appreciate you sharing how invasive it was and what it cost you to get rid of it.

    Hello ,

Just as a guide for you I had a quote from my local council for knotweed removal .

T hought it a good idea to use the council in case of any come back later .

Price depends on size of the area .  Small garden area around £400 .

    Hope this helps .

My clients when they have come against this have been paying thousands rather than hundreds, but this usually comes with a 10 yr guarantee, will the council give that at the price quoted?

I really cannot say David as each council seem to have its own set of rules .

I do not live in England although I have property in Gloucestershire .

I have properties in Wales and it was the council in Wales who gave the price.

Thank you for your help.  I also live in Wales so I'll do that.

I have just checked the councils website and they are not providing quotes now until spring time as

they say that the knotweed dies down now until spring .

    Thank you.

I spoke to the surveyor and he confirmed that there's evidence of it on the boundary away from the property.

Hi Spiritual, which council are you under?

I'm under Neath Port Talbot but when I phoned they said that all their housing stock was transferred to NPT Homes about 7 years ago and they don't treat knotweed.

Hi Spiritual, just to let you know that I spoke to someone at Swansea Council and he said they do treat knotweed on properties outside Swansea.  He advised me to go online and complete the form.  He said that they may come out now to give a quote otherwise I'll have to wait until May/June.
