    Free Boilers

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting a replacement boiler under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme lately?
Apparently it's still running for another year but it's now near on impossible to get free or even subsidised boilers?  Last time I looked into this (about six months ago) Scottish Power were still on about doing it but apparently they cherry pick which properties get them based on the cost to fit vs the total energy saving?  They reckoned that even if they were going to do it, there was about a six month lead time.  Obviously an owner occupier might just about put up without central heating for that period to get a free boiler but there's no way you can ask a tenant to wait that long so you need to get these booked in well before the old boiler becomes unrepairable.

Any comments on recent experiences welcome.

    Hi Gary,

Not heard of anyone having any joy with this.

You should be able to get a decent boiler around the £800.00 mark.

Steer clear of British Gas is my advice.  They quoted me £3K for a boiler where a local heating engineer quoted me £1200 for the boiler and fitting!

Thanks Vanessa, I'll bear that in mind.

    Hi Vanessa,

Your quote for £1,200 looks very competetive.  The best quotes I'm getting at the moment are over £2,000.  Not sure if we're looking at like-for-like quotes though.  My quote if for a Worcester 15Ri boiler with a power flush (7 radiators), updated heating contols and a pump to assist with the extraction of the condensed water, apparently this stops them getting blocked up in freezing weather.

Free boilers are available nationwide as long as one of the tenants is on any of the folllowing benefits and that the property reaches a certain level of LTS (flats, almost always never qualify) Phone me on 07876634420 if u would like a free survey to see if it qualifies
