Looks like squatters evictions will be more difficult if labour comes to power. A reverse of policy in other areas??

It's not labour who will buy though is it.  It's we who will buy.

Even if these properties were £70k each (so not anywhere in SE), where's he going to find £560,000,000?   Along with the £11bn for free education and all the billions for the NHS?  Would we see people making themselves intentionally homeless so they can be given a house?  Would they live rent free?  Will Labour/Councils compensate owners whose properties they "take over"?

I guess the plan is that  tenants will stop paying rent and make landlords go through the long eviction process, so as not to be considered to have made themselves intentionally homeless, and then get a free house.

A present LAs treat rent arrears as intentional homelessness - which absolves LA of any homing duty - except where there are kids under 16 involved where the family may get a one room B&B place where they may languish for several years

I think there will be a lot more than 8000 homeless if it means they get a free house.  Come election night I will be kick both the kids out!.

The irony is that in Labours short sightedness and desperation to get as many votes as possible they have failed to realise that people of NFA won't be registered to vote!

Good old Jeremy.  He is so kind and considerate looking after the homeless and the "have not's".  We should all take a leaf out of his book and give generously, after all we landlords have it easy and make a fortune from renting out properties. I think I will hand over all my properties to him so that he has a head start, then I will go on benefits, buy a sleeping bag and doss in doorways and wait for the inevitable freebie house to come along.  I will also apply for state benefits.Yep, no more worries for me cos Jeremy will look after me, won't he?  Oh happy days.

Vote Labour and we can all benefit from his generosity (lol).

Jeremy probably means he will rent 8000 homes to the homeless. He cant possibly mean give otherwise people might start thinking that Jeremy is suffering from mental health issues.

Sure, but the rent will presumably be zero (or 100% taxpayer funded) because if homeless people could afford rent they wouldn't be homeless?

JC also has a policy of taking over empty homes that are deliberately kept empty.  Rather than doing that maybe the question should be asked as to why an investor would want to keep a place empty.  Maybe it is the fear of investing a considerable amount, only to have the investment trashed or not to be able to regain possession of it even if the tenant stops paying.  The very fact that so many places are kept empty does go to show that in "real life" the amount made from letting a place doesn't cover the costs of the deterioration that results - especially a new home - otherwise what rational investor would do this?
