Had my Singing Pig account suspended ....

    Dear All,
I thought I would share with you that I have been banned from Singing Pig!. This seems rather strange to me as I was one of the most consistent contributors, and supported and encouraged many newbies, as well as adding genuine content that hopefully delivered real value.
I have had trouble extracting a reason for my ban from the forum owner, David Beard. He alluded that I was using Singing Pig to for "selling". I have no clue what he means by that as I NEVER promoted anything to do with 4Walls on his forum, other than our networking event, which is encouraged. I was on there as Vanessa Warwick - professional Landlady - willing to share my knowledge and experience with others.
He claims I have set up a rival forum and that it is a threat to his business. I find that highly amusing and flattering. At the last count, Singing Pig had over 18,000 users and over 41,000 threads. This forum currently has less than 50 members and our main focus is landlordship and marketing through social media, whereas SP is more about deals and acquisition.
We can all learn a lesson from this little episode. David's attitude that we are competition is a very old-fashioned way of thinking. Being competitive is counter-productive to your business in our humble opinion. There is no competition until someone clones you. We all have to be the best that we can be, and stand in our own space. There is room for everyone in the property arena. SP has nothing to fear from Property Tribes. I post original content on a huge variety of different property forums and the discusssions develop and go off at different tangents, depending on who adds to them. Not every person is on every forum, so threads will develop in different ways, which can lead to interesting discussions.
David's attitude is to be closed, selective and controlling. That is a sure fire way to kill off a business. Web 2.0 thinking dictates that businesses need to be open, inclusive, and supportive. Forums are successful precisely because they provide a "forum". They should not be policed by the owner (other than to ban people who resort to personal abuse) as that is against the philosophy of what forums are all about. The community police the forum and will challenge anyone they consider to be inauthentic or to be on there to "spam". When I was first on SP, I was challenged on several occasions, but, as I was not selling anything, I was soon accepted by the community.
David claimed that "5% of people make 95% of the noise on forums". If that is the case, it's probably not a very smart idea to de-activate the account of one of the main contributors. By doing that, he will dilute the value of the forum and it will wither and die away, like a lot of other forums have. I have to say, I was getting tired of the constant spamming of deals on SP and the constant whinging of people who had lost money on those deals. Very few people seemed interested in the business aspects of being a Landlord. I doubt those people will not be involved in property this time next year, so perhaps David better re-think his policies if he wants to ensure the longevity of his forum and his BMVNMD deals and leads business, which he uses the forum to promote.
People have a choice where they hang out and who they "follow" and no one controls that. That is the power of Web 2.0.
Please do not see this as a rant. It makes no difference to me whether I am on SP or not. I am just sharing this information with you, as we can all learn from it.

Hi Vanessa, I just read this post and decided to reply! I'm on my bb and have just registered as a user - will look into the site in greater detail when I get the oppurtunity.
I am 100% behind you with your comments... I think david from singing pig is not being very wise by suspending your account. I enjoyed reading a lot of your posts and sincerly hope he allows your membership to continue.
I think to be transparent its a case of him feeling threatened with your new site.
Anyway - wish you all the sucess. Hopefully I will continue to enjoy your posts and ultimately learn a few tricks from your team.
    Regards

Welcome to Property Tribes Qaz. Thank you for joining, it's great to have you on here. I think the real reason that my account was suspended was that I am very outspoken about BMV/NMD deals and that was what was a threat to David Beard. Another great contributor - Land Planning Associates - aka Trevor Dennington - was also recently banned for no reason. It is interesting to note that he was also very outspoken about BMV schemes.
Anyway, Property Tribes is an open forum where members can discuss anything they like in a friendly environment.
Hope you get value from being a member here and please dive in and contribute your thoughts or post a question if you need assistance with anything.

Banned from singing pig for promoting your own site – what utter nonsense! When you first started posting on singing pig your philosophy was obvious - help and support for others in the spirit of ‘give and you shall receive’. A person only has to visit your website and acknowledge your Web 2.0 stance to understand your company ethos – where’s Mr. Beards due diligence?
This Stasi-like policing of singing pig is disgustingly unimpressive. First you tell me you have been banned and then you add that Trevor Dennington has also been subjected to the same fate. What the…..? Well, looks like I naturally favour life’s rebels then! One of my prerequisites with ‘web ethics’, is the sharing of knowledge and information. Trevor’s willingness to share his knowledge on the Land forum resulted in me ordering his manual – surely this is a fair ‘trade’ and entirely in the ‘original spirit’ of the internet?
Obviously you (both) have my strongest support and I cannot impress enough how unethical I find this.
    Best wishes.

I got booted from the Tony Robbins Grad site for sharing info on events and providing a free link to a seminar next week.
Singing Pig had a go at me ages ago so I've not called into the forum since. There are plenty of places to hang out for people and it is their loss Vanessa and not yours.
    All the best,
    Bobby
(I'll add my 'letting off steam' rant about getting banned to the blog section)

    Bobby,
Please suggest some other sites where good discussions take place on the subject of UK property investing. Higher quality sites are preferred. Sites where the main agenda is to sell would not fit the definition of quality.

    Hi Vanessa,
I'm a member of SP but have to say that I've never been that impressed. Now,I've had a little thought and that is that all those that used to benefit from your discussions and replies on SP are now missing out and I don't think that is fair. I do have an idea though, leave it with me and I'll get back to you !! :-)
Hope you and Nick are well and every success with this forum, I know it will become Very popular.
    All the best,
    Rich

Rich, what are the odds of you joining the 'property rebels' gang and getting banned or having that post removed? 3 to 1 on anyone?

Thanks to everyone for their words of support. MUCH appreciated! Rich, you are so sweet to post on SP in support of us. However, as Marcus says, I doubt you will survive on there for long. However, thank you muchly!
If Bobby can come back to us with a list of other good forums to join, that would also be much appreciated.

    Hi Vanessa
    Their loss if im honest.
I think that they were abit worried about the fact that you are so knowledgeable about Prop Investment and understand the financing challenges alot of people are facing....and to them the forum is just there to generate leads for their other businesses ie Landlord Finance...i get the feeling that they are tied in some how.
Having worked with you in the past i know you would make a valuable addition to any forum.

Thanks Wasim. That may be so, but why not just explain that and ask me if I can stop being so vocal about NMD? I could understand that. However, David Beard made the excuse that I used SP as a selling platform. As others have recognised, I never did. When I challenged him, he then started to get personal about me, making some rather unpleasant and untrue observations about my character. He has no right to do that as he has never met me. I wonder if he would have got "personal" with Nick i.e. another man?
I have been a massive advocate of SP, and, if you care to look at our output, you will see many recommendations from us to use SP. He never acknowledged that.
He's certainly shown that he is unprofessional, and he's lost an advocate as a result.
