Hi! I'm new to property tribes.

    Hi,

My name is Clair and I've joined this forum as my hubby has read and commented on lots of interesting posts and I wanted to read posts and comment for myself. (I felt like I was missing out basically.)

I bought my first flat in 1996, it was on the ground floor of an 11 floor tower block and I struggled to get my head round why I had to contribute to the lift maintenance when I was never going to use it! I made sure I stretched myself to buy a 2 bedroom property so that I could let out the other room and that worked well for me for a while. In 1998 I sold my flat privately and bought a 3 bedroom 2 reception room terraced Victorian house where I let out 2 of the bedrooms and made one of the downstairs rooms a bedroom and let that out too.

In the meantime my hubby (boyfriend at the time) was on to his second house, living in whilst letting out rooms to work colleagues. He was in Uxbridge and I was in Sutton.

We then started buying houses in Sutton and stretching ourselves as much as possible and so our property adventure began together as HMO's living in them with tenants to set them up, and moving on when we bought the next and starting again. We tended to buy properties that needed a lot of work and would often be up till 2.00am plastering etc then both getting up early for jobs!

We now have 10 houses that we let out, some in Sutton, some in Uxbridge and one in Portsmouth, some HMO's and some let to families as well as our own house where we let out our loft room with en-suite to short term renters. We have had our ups and downs over the years including a fire in a property where the tenants had used our house as a cannibis factory! And my husband has done all manner of building work including re-building a burnt out house and then extending it to make it bigger and better than before. Well you have to make the best of things and turn a negative into a positive but it was a very difficult time.

On a more personal level, we got married in 2000 and we had our first child in 2001 when I gave up work. We then had 3 more children and James "retired" from employed work on his 30th birthday. He does all the hard work really and I mainly advertise rooms and houses, meet tenants and prospective tenants, send and reply to e-mails and do some cleaning and garden maintenance at some of the properties. Well I have got 4 children so there's only so much I can do!

Well, I hope that tells you a little about me and us and I look forward joining in on Property Tribes from now on!

    Thanks

    Clair

Hope you get the time to enjoy your children and calm things down a little!

feel free to pick my brains if looking for any new projects.
