How long does it take to get granted an HMO License?
We have been waiting for at least 6 months since having put forward the application to Birmingham City Council- should we be concerned?
Provided you have proof the licence application was submitted, you are compliant with the licensing scheme. Having recently analysed a sample of licence applications submitted in London, I found over half took 6 months or more to approve and about 10% took over a year. It can be a slow process!

No, many councils have a back log of applications to get through.
So long as you've paid the fee and submitted a complete application which has been acknowledged you're covered. The council will eventually contact you to inspect. Luton BC took 2 years!
Sit tight EP,
My case Camden Council : applied End Aug 2017, surveyed May 2018, Schedule given in End of Aug 2018 starting in Early Sep 2018.
Initially a week after applying I contacted them and they were loaded with applications and said they won't be in touch until Dec. but I they didn't come until May. They said don't worry as long as I have the Application number when I applied I should be ok. Also of course they took the money so all together I was ok.
So like others responses the councils are overloaded and staff shortages.
For your peace of mind you could contact them to confirm they have the application.
Just sit tight.
We have a video that addresses this question:

Cardiff CC is currently taking approx 2 years plus to arrange an inspection ?
Once you have submitted a valid application (make sure you have confirmation that you have done this), you can view the time the council take to process the application as additional time on your licence. I never chase Oxford Council once I have an application in, and this means my 'licences' last over 3 years rather than just the 1 I had paid for. My friend always chased and this meant his 'licences' were about 1 year 2 months.
I have properties under 4 different councils. 3 of them managed in just about 2 months, the 4th one is still pending, now over 6 months.
Thank you all for your input, we going to sit back and wait. In the meantime we taking viewings for the property
