Labour - 5 ways to take on "rogue" landlords

The Labour Party appears to be entering the arena of organising private rental sector tenants who have grievances against "rogue" landlords to start taking action themselves.

Party leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted over the weekend about "five ways to take on rogue landlords" - and the video he links to pulls no punches about what he and Labour appear to think about rogue operators in the PRS.

The video includes a 5 point plan in how to fight back against rogue landlords which includes taking to social media.

I shouldn’t worry too much. When you analyse what he says it’s fairly basic stuff - know your rights, speak to the CAB, go to meetings etc... All stuff good landlords have been suggesting and co-operating with for years. I regularly give tenants solid, genuine advice that they’d never get anywhere else.

I agree, of all the scary things that can come from Labour this doesn't really concern me.

This is fairly innocuous, but it's the bigger narrative he and his cronies have been spouting that this is set against. It is very clever manipulation, folk say yes he's right, but then it gets linked to something less palliatible just like his anti semitic agenda.

I think he needs to focus a little more on the appalling conditions in Council and HA properties..

It amazes me the demonising that private landlords get compared to HA and council properties.  Granted there are some truly terrible landlords out there that clearly need looking into, but the double standard that is applied where lettings are concerned is bonkers.

Not sure what the issue is. I would encourage support for tenant activism, rogue landlords are a scurge - we should be asking how we can help tenants get rid of them, not worrying about tenants campaigning.

I hate to hear of tenants being poorly treated & landlords failing to look after properties. I think it is a big part of the reason why landlords are generally disliked.

What can we do to help improve the standards in our sector?
