  • Deposit Protection

Launch of "Lifecycle of a Deposit" Week!

Welcome to a brand new themed week of content on Property Tribes.

This week, in association with TDS, we are tracking the lifecycle of a tenant's deposit.

Tenancy deposit protection was introduced into the UK in 2007, but, incredibly, there are still a significant proportion of landlords who do not understand their legal obligations in this regards!

The week is being powered by our TDP partner, TDS, who are supplying the content each day.  Mike Morgan of TDS joined me to launch this new week of content:

Tune in daily for fresh content about how to protect a tenant's deposit correctly at the start of the tenancy, right through to the return of the deposit at the end of the tenancy.  We may even up-date you as to what happened with regards to the two beetles mentioned in the video!

Thank you to TDS for supporting landlord education and Property Tribes.

    Content review:

Wednesday - 3 steps to protect a deposit correctly

Thursday - How changes to a tenancy affect the deposit

Friday -  Managing the deposit at the end of the tenancy

Saturday - How to think like an Adjudicator to solve disputes

If you would like to take advantage of the off-line training offered by TDS, you can find a list of workshops >>> here.

The thing that amazes me is the number of LL that seem to be unaware that without correct deposit protection they are opening themselves up to prosecution for compensation and it being very awkward to use S21.

That is in addition to the other documents that need to have been issued for S21 purposes.

Long eviction processes can financially destroy a LL.

It seems many of them aren't aware that a tenant could see them bankrupted and homeless
