I am in the process of remortgaging my flat in manchester city centre and i am trying to choose a mortgage broker from the hundreds you see on line. there are many large companies online who presumably will have a large number of brokers working for them.many of these firms have mixed reviews and maybe would lack the one on one attention you would get from a smaller scale broker perhaps.It is a home owner mortgage of £80000. i will be looking to refinance up to around £115000 and will be looking to get a mortgage i can swap for a rental mortgage at some point down the line.does anyone have any advice or specific recommendations on a mortgage broker? thanks.

I would speak to a couple of brokers to engage their knowledge and understanding of the housing and lending market.
Key questions include
What are their Terms of Business.
How large is their network ( Each network has a panel of mortgage lenders)
Are they FCA registered ( Check the FCA register to verify)
Do they specialise in the market for what you are looking for?
Do your diligence to reduce your risk of ending up with a broker that talks the talks but cant walk the walk.
These days locality isn't an issue as a good broker could work with you from the other side of the country.

Thanks for your replies. apologies to the mortgage brokers on here but i have to ask, what do people think of using online services like trussle, habito etc? I've researched the subject and like many things i have found conflicting opinions and advice on these types of services. It would appear that if you are looking for a bog standard vanilla mortgage they are a good option as they have access to the largest network of lenders but if you are looking for something more niche with specific criteria then a MB might be a better option. Essentially I want a fixed rate, interest only with a possible option to repay (not essential) and with an option to swap to a rental in the future if I decide to move out. With this in mind does anyone have any opinions on whether or not the likes of trussle etc may be a better option over a MB?
