    National Trust ransom strip

    Hi Tribers,

anyone got experience of challenging the National Trust? The vendors of a rural property I've offered on have been asked to pay £35,000 to extend the term of a lease (begun in 2014 by previous owners) or replace with a freehold easement, both granting access to the property over a small parcel of land the NT own, over which an unadopted road crosses. Neighbours pay nothing as they have a prescriptive right of way.  Any experience of winning against the NT behemoth or of gaining a prescriptive right of way?

Reduce the offer price by £35K and pay for the easement. You'll probably spend more on a court case against the NT.
