One man's rubbish - skip dipping!

I have to confess I look in Skips and If I see good Wood I take it and I slip a my Business card through the front door where the skip is advising that I had removed wood ect but I would be happy to return it If needed

Today I was driving along and I saw a Skip with Five new Radiators all in boxes (never Been Opened ) in the skip - they were wet with water from the Night Dew

I did the normal thing dropped off my Card and took the Radiators

I have just checked on Line each Radiator is worth £125 plus VAT each

Not bad for a morning work I will keep them for repairs etc.

I cant understand why someone throws away New Radiators

What have you found in a skip ?!

    DL

Wood for my log burner all the time.

Not sure if its a true story but I heard that two policemen on their rounds once came across a drunk who told them he couldn't get his car to start, they had to tell him he wasn't sitting in his sports car, he was sitting in a skip! Then they took away his keys.

One night during high school, my friend and I got invited to a party. I didn't drive back then so my friend picked me up. All went well on our way to the party.

On the way back however, he got pulled over.

As we were pulling to the side of the road, I told him that I was gonna pretend to be sleeping (since I was the passenger). Anyway, I hear the cop get out of his cop car, walk towards our car, stops at the window but doesn't say anything. I can feel the brightness of his flashlight but I don't hear him or my friend say anything.

After about what seemed like an eternity, I decide to open my eyes to see what's going on. That's when I see my friend, the guy who is driving, is pretending like he is sleeping too.

    Not a good practice

Liable to be arrested for theft

Better to get permission from the owner before you take items not belonging to you

If you read the Law on theft you will see I am not committing theft

Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanently

Thats why I leave my Business card offing to return the Goods

I was a Part time cop for 9 years  with Northumbria Police and a Magistrate

were you ever a police officer who studied law ????

You will be saying next taking of a Car is also theft ???

Haha DL, I go skip raiding too. I mostly remove wood to burn in my fire in the winter.

It's going to be a problem this year as I have a much smaller car and won't be able to fit whole pallets in!

where I live you can get £3.75 for a pallet

I have had some great wood finds New wood thrown out because it was not needed

I have a Garage Lock up where I store the wood and it saves me a fortune

If the House is occupied I ask if I can have the Goods and every time I ask I get YES TAKE IT AWAY

The Rads today were as good as they left the Maker wrapped up and thrown out

I spoke to my Plumber this morning and he said he had been on jobs (Large ) where the same thing had happened

I think its good Recycling Practice  Im sure the protesters in London will welcome what I do LOL

I green without knowing it LOL

Yes I know the law on theft. You didn`t read my post DL

I said you were liable to arrest for theft . I didnt say you had committed theft

Ample suspicion  to arrest you if you were seen making off from the scene

You get followed stopped a mile away  arrested taken in . Wait 4 hrs . Interviewed .

Your story gets checked out  . The guy may not be at home though so they cant verify your story

So you get bailed pending further enquiries and you come back. Re interviewed

I am well aware of what your defence would be in interview  and it may or may not be believed

You may get charged and found not guilty yes

Not a good use of taxpayers money though to be honest .

All that time and money could be saved if you had just waited till the homeowner was in and asked

All that time and money could be saved if you had just waited till the homeowner was in and asked

What difference would it make if the homeowner was asked?

You could still be stopped a mile away. They could still not be at home to verify the story 4 hours later..

A good teacher must know the rules; a good pupil, the exceptions.

    Martin H. Fischer

True . Good point .Depends what the witness saw and how they reported the incident

If DL though had got a receipt / signed note and a contact name and number of the owner that might prevent the arrest

But as it stood she could well get arrested

5 new rads all boxed up not opened worth £750  in a skip !

That`s suspicious in my book and that`s all they need to arrest

Its like the proverbial - they fell off a back of a lorry guv
