Planning Fees going up 20% !!!

My Architect called me to tell me had received a letter from Basildon Council to inform all agents Planning Fees are going up across the board 20% starting 17th Jan 2018.

They said they are informing agents now as the Govt portal website will not be open to take these new charges until.....wait for it...17th Jan!!

I am i late to the races here? Has this already been discussed on PT ?

With the dysfunction of the housing market as it is and the absurdity of prices in general people are improving, not moving, like never before. More people using the system places councils under increasing pressure despite Cameron's relaxing of permitted development rights, a move designed to alleviate such.

Add to that the systematic and abusive restriction of funding for, well, everything by central government and the resulting squeeze on local authority budgets hardly makes such a move surprising.  Its prices up to pay for more staff or waiting times double or triple.  Frankly I'm amazed its only 20%.

It's time to realise we can't have scandanavian levels of public service with US levels of taxation.  Something has to give and my guess is that over the next 5-10 years there's plenty more where this came from...........
