Please get rid of nested replies. Who agrees?

When the latest design of PT went live, I raised this issue and I am raising it again now

Previously every thread was in chronological order so was easy to track what the latest comment was. Also it was easy to reply to multiple comments by using the QUOTE button, which still say in one thread. This is how popular forums tend to work. See an example below (ignore the content lol, quickest one i could find).

The recent update changed this to have nested comments. Main rationale was 'because Facebook do it and Facebook are popular'. I don't doubt Facebook are popular but surely they are different websites with different usability needs.

My issue with this nested format is two fold:

    1. Hard to find the latest comment. I appreciate there is a 'Go to first unread post' button, but it doesn't account for if there are multiple unread posts. E.g. In a long thread of 10+ pages, if there is a new post on page 1 as a nested reply, and another new post on page 7, I would never see the one on page 7
    2. Replying to individual comments is harder. A recent example can be found here - What is your rent increase strategy? I read the thread a few days after i posted it, and I had to reply to each post. More effort and not sure if my replies will be seen by everyone. Also opens up to a lot of repetition. It would have been a lot easier with the QUOTE button and cleaner as everything would have been in one post.

Please change it back!!! Who agrees (or doesn't)??

Disclaimer: I do appreciate all the work Nick and Vanessa have done with PT. Best property forum hands down! Just some feedback on how we could make it better. Even if you don't agree, please do take my feedback on board. This isn't a knee-jerk reaction like when user's complain about change. This is through years of using PT and similar forum sites.

I think I'm inclined to agree.

However, as it stands I'm at the start of a major overhaul of the 'code' (it quite literally has just started as of yesterday), and it's costing quite a lot and will take 6 months.

That being said I will ask if it can be 'shoe-horned' in. If not then it will be after the code re-write is done.

Thank you so much for the consideration! I'm in the industry myself so fully appreciate timescales/priorities and any technical constraints I may not be aware of.

I look forward to the update. Keep up the good work!

I think there is a place for Nested Replies in short-form conversations. Such as you see on Facebook but on PropertyTribes its much more long-form discussions and not sure it fits in well. I'm fine on the first few pages of a conversation but then when it gets above that, it often gets confusing. Maybe its just me,

Yes, I also tend to agree with your comments Adam.

Very well put, I must say - you could teach a lot of social media & forum users a thing or two about how to put a point across!

    Best,

    Helen

Yes I agree, I found it easier to keep tabs on the new comments with chronological ordering
