Short term lets booked to provide VISA info?

I have just been reading a very detailed post on the Serviced Accommodation Network UK about the vagaries and challenges of using booking.com.

During the course of the discussion, various people mentioned that they were receiving bookings from all over the world and from people who did not pay by credit card and said that they would turn up with large wads of cash. Booking.com protocols insist that they honour the booking.

No surprises that these people did not subsequently turn up!  This caused problems for the person running the SA because the property had been booked out, sometimes for a lengthy period, and was now void.

This comment really caught my eye though:

So just spoke to my Algerian friend in French Smile it is nice to have a second language. anyway I digress he does not yet have a visa and has not yet bought his ticket....I asked him why he booked a hotel when he has no visa he said he needs an address for the visa.

You can read the entire thread >>> here.

Interested to hear what the PT community think of this and what kind of business risk it creates?
