Should I charge weekly or monthly rent?

Hello all, just wondering if I should charge rent on a weekly or monthly basis?

    Is there any difference?

Is the overall rent more when calculated per week?

It really depends what market you are in and what the local norm is. Most rents are monthly because it’s easier to administer, but there are areas (usually lower value ones) where weekly rents are charged.

It shouldn’t make any difference to your annual rent whether you charge weekly or monthly. Just remember that if working out a weekly rent, take the annual rent and divide by 52. Often people divide the monthly by 4, but that’s wrong as there’s not exactly 4 weeks in a month.

If you charge weekly dont you need to provide a rent book?
One of my tenants pays 4 weekly so 13 payments per year rather than 12. Annual rent is the same though we just calculated it as for some reason he prefers 4 weekly as it's what he is used too

    Slowly working towards financial freedom

Sometimes tenants signing up to pay 4 weekly rather than calendar monthly forget that the rent due date gets progressively earlier in the month - whilst most people are paid either calendar monthly or weekly - benefit claimants being main exception.

13 payments of 4 weeks is not the same annual rent (only 364 days, but if landlord wishes to throw money away so be it... )

With 4-weekly rent there is no s8g8 (seriously, read the law.....)

I find that If your rent is weekly it’s easier to deal with rent arrears. 1 weeks rent in arrears is far less than 1 months.
