Solicitor sent documents for another person

    Hi

Just wanted to get your advice on the following.

My solicitor sent me some documents, however in the same envelope, they also sent me some documents meant for someone else. This included confidential information for the other person including names, addresses, emails, DOB, etc.

What would you do here? Simply contact the solicitor and let them know?

This is a major breach and if they did that to one of my documents I would be really annoyed and worried!

We are human beings and it was a probably a genuine mistake.  Call them let them know. They probably got a £10 per hour clerk doing the postings and filing who couldent care less about data protection.   Shit happens

If it happened to you, I guess you would want the recipient to put them straight back in an envelope and post them straight back to the solicitor! Smile

Treat others as you would wish to be treated .....

Simple human error.  It's not acceptable, so include a note suggesting that they put protocols in place so it cannot happen again.

If you feel very aggrieved by this then you should contact them firm and establish which partner is responsible in the first instance for handling complaints and write to them

Having never made a mistake in my life I find it difficult to understand how this could have arisen

Obviously send it back. I had similar case with the inland revenue.

Would you believe it they sent my complete file and other papers relating to tax affairs and a ongoing case going back over 8 years ago.

I phoned them up and they could not believe it and very next day they sent an tax inspector round to pick up the files.

To cut a long story short they were trying to get monies for something they agreed I was not liable for and put it in writing at that time.

They were saying it was never the case. Well I have the evidence in my hands and they could not dispute the fact because I gave them back the file with the information in.
