  • Student Accommodation

    Students ‘living in substandard conditions’

Interesting article in Landlord Today that suggests that Landlords are at least partially responsible for poor student accommodation.

When I decided to invest in this sector, I viewed many properties.

One thing really stood out. And, at the risk of being labelled as a complete sexist, these are my thoughts.

Houses solely occupied by male students were far more squalid than all female and mixed houses.

Some of my messiest tenants have been female students, and the tidiest male.

My son lived in an all male house when he was at uni. I used to wear a bio-hazard suit to visit him.

I find a mixed group the easiest to manage.

    Any other student landlords agree/disagree?

Ive only ever had female students, nil problems so far diligent, tidy, responsible and will be entering their third year in september.

I think I'd prefer that they stay forever.

I've got my best ever tenant (including professionals) this year.

    He's an Aerospace Engineering student.

The most practical tenant you could ask for who fixes more or less everything himself!

Tempted to let him stay on free of charge.....
