    Universal Credit Breakthrough

    I believe the tide is slowly changing with respect to Universal Credit.  We have always had our Housing Benefit payments paid direct to us as a Landlord and Agent and to date 95% of our UC tenant’s Housing Element is paid direct which to date has been a chore to arrange.

    However, I have noticed a change in attitude amongst UC staff when requesting Alternative Payment Arrangements.  Previously it was a computer says “NO” mentality, with their processes very much set in stone, but during the last couple of weeks when setting up 5 UC claims the DWP seems a lot more “open” to working with landlords to provide a solution rather than “you can’t do that” approach.

    Latest example being a gentleman who was previously homeless has missed a few appointments with his work coach and has not provided proof of tenancy and address.  In the last week after making a couple of phone calls to the DWP they have agreed for me to drop a tenancy and “proof of address” letter into the local job centre so the gentleman’s UC claim isn’t held up and rent gets paid!

    Is anybody else fining the DWP getting easier to deal with?

    Yes - I actually had someone call me from DWP to check some details.
    This has not happened before, if something was wrong it was wrong until I chased it.

    Though I think the system will always be crap until they launch the Landlord Portal.

    Apart from the 20-30 minute telephone wait to speak to somebody, I must admit I have found them very efficient the last couple of weeks.  Infact UC have been very proactive of late after calling me on Friday for my bank details, which i didn't have at hand then went away and retrieved the details themselves from my Supplier Reference Number and created an APA for a new tenants Housing Element.
