    What is a professional landlord?

I think you would consider yourself a " professional landlord " when being a landlord gives you your largest income . I think we all aspire to be competent landlords .

I`m not sure I agree with that definition

I know a number of investors who I would consider professional landlords but it doesn't necessarily bring them the majority of their income

They have made or make their money in a number of other areas where they are professional too

They are simply professional business people

So a  person can have  x properties turning over 100K pa

but they could have   2 other businesses each giving nearer 200K turnover each

They are a still a professional landlord  in my view

They just happen to be professional in two other more lucrative businesses / jobs as well

They may start up a 4th business as well ( lets say removal company)

This  turns over only 20K in its 1st year but has excellent projected growth figures

They would class themselves I`m sure as a professional removal company at the inception of the business and not expect to wait until  it outshines  all their other businesses in income terms to only then be considered worthy of being called a professional removal company

Great question! I would have to agree with others, that being a professional landlord is when the majority or entirety of your income is from being a landlord. I think that all landlords should act professionally when dealing with tenants and responsibilities, regardless of the number of properties they have.
